Résumé: The early reels of First Man into Space should delight fans of the Mercury/Sputnik era in rocket technology... though it may delight fans of low-budget '50s sci-fi even more. A small manned rocket, launched from a jet cruising at high altitude, manages to poke its nose up about 250 miles above the earth---thus making its cocky, reckless pilot the (you guessed it) first man into space. Unfortunately, weird cosmic debris clings to the spacecraft when it crash-lands, and also to the astronaut: he's now covered with a layer of scaly, sparkly space rock. To put it in technical terms, the returned pilot is categorized as "a great big lumbering deformed monster." He's lumbering around a rocket facility in New Mexico, and the monster-pilot's brother (played by the always sober, always reliable Marshall Thompson) must find the thing before it kills again. Oddly enough, once the cheesy space-flight FX wear off, First Man into Space turns into a competent and surprisingly thoughtful thriller; give this movie some points for at least trying to emphasize the science in its fiction. --Robert Horton

Résumé: La première fois que j'ai vu "Blow Out", il y a une vingtaine d'années, j'avais douze ans et c'était au cinéma. Depuis, j'ai dû le voir trois ou quatre fois et j'y prends toujours un réel plaisir. A l'époque, au début des années 80, John Travolta était surtout connu pour ses rôles de danseurs gominés, il apparaît dans "Blow Out" en ingénieur du son qui travaille pour des films de série B et qui se retrouve bien malgré lui témoin de ce qui, à première vue, apparaît comme un simple accident de voiture. Mais le crime politique n'est pas loin et tout va alors très vite Travolta gagne avec ce rôle une vraie épaisseur humaine. On tombe également immédiatement sous le charme de la belle et fragile Nancy Allen, actrice fétiche de De Palma ("Pulsions"). On notera des scènes d'une technicité grandiose, un suspense haletant, une mise en scène de grande qualité. "Blow Out" est diablement efficace et mené de bout en bout avec brio.

Résumé: At a track near Rome, shoeshine boys are watching horses run. Two of the boys, the orphan Pasquale and his younger friend Giuseppe, are riding. In return for a commission, the boys agree to deliver black market goods to a fortune-teller. Once the woman has paid, Attilio's gang suddenly arrives, pretending to be cops, to shake the woman down. With a payoff from Attilio, the boys are able to make the final payment and stable their horse in Trastevere over the river. The fortune-teller identifies Pasqua and Giuse. Held at an overcrowded boys' prison, they are separated. Giuse falls under the influence of an older lad in his cell, Arcangeli. During interrogation, Pasqua is tricked into betraying Giuse's brother to the police. With their trial still in the future, the two friends are driven further apart.
